Highlights
School Lane Charter School has started a multi-million dollar renovation project of the existing school building as well as adding a two-story building and gymnasium. Schematic and design plans have been presented and approved by the School Lane Charter School’s Board of Trustees.
School Lane Charter School presented preliminary plans to the Bensalem Planning Commission on March 15, 2006. The Bensalem Planning Commission issued a continuance for the April 19, 2006 meeting.
The two-story building, approximately 18,000 square foot, will house nine new state of the art classrooms for School Lane Charter School’s middle school grades. In addition to these nine classrooms, there will be two smaller instructional classrooms, offices for the middle school administrator and physical education teacher and an elevator. The School Lane Charter School renovation project will be completed July 2007.
The new gymnasium will be approximately 7,900 square foot. The gymnasium will house a regulation high school basketball court. The gymnasium will have an automated pull-out bleacher system, computerized scoreboard and an electronic pull down screen for multi-media presentations.
There will be extensive renovation work in the existing school building. First, the existing building will have air condition installed. The new HVAC system will be monitored and controlled by a centralized computer system. This computer system will also control the HVAC system in the new buildings. The second major project is enlarging the John Peter Allen Library. We will be almost doubling the size of the library. The third project will be relocating the staff lounge. Lastly, all the classroom and office doors and frames will be replaced as well as carpeting installed in the hallway corridors.
You can also expect to see major reconfiguration of School Lane Charter School’s school yard. First, a one-way bus drive-way coming in from Route 13 is planned. This one way drive-way is expecting to improve the traffic congestion around the residential streets surrounding School Lane Charter School. Next, the playground will be relocated from along Route 13 and positioned between the existing school building and new gymnasium. This will serve as a barrier for our young students. School Lane Charter School is looking into installing a water retention system in the school yard to alleviate existing water flow issues in the school yard. The landscaping inside and outside of the school yard will be redesigned and improved to include more grass and trees.
